Employment in the construction sector and related industries are suffering more compared to other parts of the economy, resulting in sustained high unemployment and significant available manufacturing capacity. As the UK Border Agency launches its new international strategy, a new report by the leading independent think tank ippr says that the Government should take impacts on developing nations into account when designing UK immigration policy. But rather than focusing on the potential negative impacts on developing countries through brain drain, migration policy should also consider the potential benefits of migration to sending nations such as remittances.
One Year After Recovery: US Jobs saved and created

One year on, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has already saved or created approximately 1.8 million jobs nationwide and will continue to create more jobs as infrastructure projects ramp up in the next year, according to new analysis from Washington DC.

A network of nine independent think tanks in high emitting countries, including in BASIC countries, is launching a new initiative Wednesday aimed at providing analysis for a low-carbon economy. Recession leaves almost half young black people unemployed, finds ippr

Ahead of Office for National Statistics jobless figures to be published today (Wednesday), new analysis from the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr) shows that almost half (48%) of Black people aged between 16-24 are now unemployed – compared to the rate of unemployment among white young people which stands at 20%.
US stimulus creates green jobs

The clean energy investment in President Obama's recovery or stimulus act has saved or created an estimated 63,000 jobs and this total is expected to rise to as many as 700,000 once all the measures are in place.
