ippr’s cross-cutting public services project – of which education will be one key theme – sought to inform and steer the debate on the future of public services in the UK, making recommendations for the 2007 comprehensive spending review and setting out a clear reform agenda for the public services.
The future of public services will be heavily determined by the process leading up to and the outcome of the 2007 comprehensive spending review. This will prompt a fundamental debate about long-term pressures facing public services and the appropriate size of the state, the contribution of public services to delivering outcomes central to the objective of securing social justice, and how to maintain popular support for the public services.
Timescale: January 2006 – January 2007
This project has been made possible by the support of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Accenture.
