IPPR North comment on 'Council of the North'

Commenting on the announcement that the Labour Party would create a 'Council of the North', Ed Cox, director of think-tank IPPR North, said:
"The Labour Party is right to call for a Council of the North as the citizens of the North deserve to be represented by a collective voice in times of such great opportunity and uncertainty just as people are in Scotland or London.
"But these matters are too important for political games, Brexit has marked a turning point and Northerners are fed up with Westminster partisanship. On a day when government has offered support for a Northern Brexit Negotiating Committee, all political parties should get behind the resurgent North and find a form of governance that lets Northerners take back control."
