Foreign policy for a changed world: Britain and America in the age of insecurity
About Foreign policy for a changed world: Britain and America in the age of insecurity
For the first time since the birth of democracy in their countries, Britons and Americans do not expect their children to be better off than them. The planet is on fire, and democracy and liberalism have receded around the world, as well as at home.
We are at the start of a new era for foreign policy. A time where the lines between domestic and international agendas have blurred, great power rivalry has returned and much of the world is “non-aligned”.
In that context, Lisa Nandy MP, Shadow Cabinet Minister for International Development and Patrick Gaspard, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for American Progress and former United States Ambassador to South Africa considered the challenges and opportunities for the UK and the US in this changed world, and explored what a new, progressive foreign policy looks like.
