Carys Roberts
Executive director (outgoing)Carys was the executive director of IPPR, leading the institute’s strategy and its senior management team, from 2020 to 2024.
Prior to this role, Carys led IPPR’s work on how to hardwire the UK economy for prosperity and justice, as chief economist and as lead analyst for the IPPR Commission on Economic Justice. Her research interests include wealth inequality, fiscal policy and labour markets.
She regularly provided expert commentary on national broadcast media; past appearances have included BBC Today programme, Channel 4 News, LBC Cross Question and BBC Newsnight. She has written for a range of online and print publications, including the Guardian, Prospect, and IPPR Progressive Review, of which she was a founding editor.
Before she joined IPPR Carys worked at the RSA, the Social Mobility Foundation, the IFS and in charity impact evaluation. She has a masters in social policy research from LSE and a BA in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University.
She left IPPR in August 2024 to take up a senior role in the Downing Street Policy Unit.
